Forklift Repair -- Here's What You Need To Know
As you are probably aware, fork lift repair can be quite costly, and reduces the bottom-line profitability of your business enterprise. So keeping forklift repairs to an absolute minimum is critical to your business success. The first step towards minimizing your forklift repair costs is to implement a rigorous training and maintenance program. Often times forklifts become inoperable due to improper operation -- a joyriding operator, or one who ignores safety standards, will usually end up wrecking their equipment! So step one in avoiding costly forklift repair costs is to make sure that your operators are trained in the proper day-to-day operation of their forklift. In addition to having a rigorous operator training program, you should also have a complete preventative maintenance program as well. Your forklift operators should be trained to regularly inspect their units -- finding and correcting these problems early on will help small problems from becoming big -- and expensive -- forklift repair projects. I cannot underestimate the importance of performing regular inspection and preventative maintenance as an effective way of reducing your overall forklift repair costs. Should your unit need repair, you should contact a qualified forklift repair service. A reputable forklift repair company will hire and retain experienced service technicians -- don't entrust this job to your high school age stock boy! When you contact them, your forklift repair company should be able to send a qualified service technician to your premises quickly, to minimize downtime -- and when they are on site they will be able to evaluate the situation and recommend possible solutions. Please be aware of the fact that if the necessary forklift repairs will be extensive, your forklift may need to be taken into their shop for more detailed examination and complete repairs. If it should be necessary for your forklift to be taken to your forklift repair company's shop, your repair company should be capable of transporting your forklift -- in most cases they will send out some sort of truck or flatbed to pick it up and return it to you once repairs have been completed. Another thing: a good-quality forklift repair company should be able to provide (or help you secure) a temporary "loaner" forklift for you to use until your own unit has been fixed. This is an important consideration, as many businesses will not be able to operate properly without their forklift, and another one may not be available on the premises (this is particularly true of small businesses who can only afford one unit). As always, if your forklift should need repairs make sure you receive a written estimate, one that shows a separate breakout for parts as well as labor -- and if you are concerned about repair fraud, you can always request (better: require) that your forklift repair company return all used parts removed from your unit. |
